Jupiter in Virgo; What Will it Mean?
“News You Can Use”
August 11th marks the day when Jupiter says goodbye to Leo and moves into Virgo for the next year. This is going to be quite a shift from the glorious boldness of a very yang fire sign into the humble yet impeccable earth sign where small will matter big-time. Virgo, after all, usually cleans up for Leo. A good example would be a novelist (Leo) who must work with a publishing editor (Virgo) to delete, re-word, polish, and refine the diamond-in-the-rough manuscript.
Jupiter in Virgo enters the sign right between Venus in Leo, moving retrograde, and Mercury in Virgo. Looks like that Mercury will want more analysis, critiques, and improvements in a lot of areas. Where should we start?
Let’s start with crops, agriculture, and food. Let’s take it a step further and look at how climate change is impacting all of these areas. Will Jupiter in Virgo not blow things up bigger than life for everyone to examine? I just read, for example, how the wine industry is scrambling to keep up with hotter climate conditions which impact their grapes. Grapes need to be harvested much earlier in some areas. Different types of grapes will have to be grown in certain areas. Here in California it’s also going to be about irrigation and water sources with the extended drought.
Truly, in Virgo we begin to see how everything is related synergistically. Virgo rules assimilation and the small intestines. The body needs certain nutrients extracted from the digested food while it needs to eliminate waste products which must pass on into the colon. Think about this process on a more global scale and you get the picture of some of the messes that need to be cleaned up under Jupiter passage through this highly discriminating earth sign. This topic covers a host of ecological issues that impact agriculture, but also health, another Virgo topic.
Staying healthy and fit will be another field enlarged upon by Jupiter’s presence. Hopefully new techniques will be developed that improve mind/body fitness. All people in the helping professions may find benefit from Jupiter for a year. The danger today is probably coming from the amount of attention spent on computers by doctors, and personnel leading to treatment of the patient more or less as a ‘thing’ rather than a person.
As astrologer, Steve Arroyo, states in his book Exploring Jupiter, ”Over-attention to detail can inhibit connection with a larger order” meaning you and me. We are whole beings. It’s less likely that we’ll be treated as such by many health workers, though there are still a few holistic practitioners who will take the time to treat the whole person, rather than some symptom manifesting in that person.
Wild-crafting and herbs may gain greater scope and acceptability in the year ahead. Virgo is often associated with the ‘old healers’, and the ‘old ways’ of healing using natural substances rather than pharmaceuticals. My old Medical Astrology teacher, Dr. Ingrid Naiman, will soon be starting a clinic in Ecuador doing just that in addition to other holistic practices.
Craftsmanship may well increase because Jupiter in Virgo will enlarge upon detail work. This may show up in all of the fine arts, but also in the housing industry where a finely crafted house is truly a thing of beauty as well as utility. Yes, let’s say it for utility and beauty combined now! I would think Craft Fairs may well have a revival under Jupiter’s blessing. Certainly Farmer’s Markets should do well into the fall and starting up late next spring.
Small is beautiful means every worker on the planet should matter. There may be more legal battles ahead with worker’s rights, especially in the service industries. We’ve been seeing this in the USA for quite awhile, but perhaps the minimum wage will increase at long last. Those millions born with Uranus/Pluto in Virgo in the mid-sixties may get an added boost as Jupiter moves through the same sign. This generation is now in their late forties, early fifties. Many are highly involved with the computer/inter-net industries. None of these people are organized in terms of any type of labor movement interestingly enough. They are vulnerable to job security. Will Jupiter in Virgo make any difference in their lives? The global market now expands to find cheaper and cheaper labor elsewhere. Jupiter will trine Pluto (Corporations) during much of this year ahead. Will that aspect improve the lives of workers and techies? Or will it just make the corporate structure stronger and more in control?
Evidently there was an article in Forbes magazine awhile back that stated that more billionaires were born under the sign of Virgo than any other; 12%. I’m not sure any astrologer has cared to try to analyze why this is so. Certainly Virgo can fixate and specialize in a rather obsessive-compulsive way. I don’t have the charts of individuals bearing this mark, but rather the date when the Rothschild family began to fix the price of gold on September 12, 1919 at 10:30 AM in London. This is a most interesting example of setting in motion a ‘fixation’ that continued for nearly 100 years. Jupiter, however, was in Leo next to Neptune and Mars, while Saturn, Mercury, Sun, and Venus (of course!) were all in Virgo. Who says Virgo isn’t powerful???? So how will Jupiter do in this banking cartel? Quite well I’d say, much to the detriment of the other 99.99% of us.
But how will you and I truly fare this coming year? Where can we each grow and expand? Look to the house where you have Virgo energy and whether or not you have planets in Virgo. Virgo Sun signs may be able to shine and grow in purpose and power this coming year. Virgo Rising souls may have a strong new beginning cycle emerge. Virgo Moon signs may feel the blessing or the over whelm of Jupiter, or both! If you are in the helping and health professions, service industries, fine craftsmanship on any level, technical professions, various repair industries, and anything having to do with the natural world, it may be a year of development and growth for you. Getting practical and industrious will definitely help. Making sure that procedures are followed in all aspects of productivity will assure quality control when Virgo is encouraged to function as it should.
All the babies born from August 11th, 2015 through September 9th, 2016 will have this signature. These are souls coming in with a lot of Mutable energy including Saturn in Sagittarius, and Neptune/Chiron in Pisces. I’ll have to write about these configurations a bit later on.
Here are recent time periods when Jupiter was in Virgo:
2003-2004
1991-1992
1979-1980
1967-1968
I’m also sharing a few famous people born with Jupiter in Virgo:
Gisele Bundchen once considered the top model in the world. She is goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme. A great way to put her Jupiter in Virgo to use!
Will Smith, that versatile actor and hip hop artist. Evidently he has had success in three arenas: film, television, and the music industry. His dominant signs are Libra, Virgo, and Aries—nice combination of Air-Earth-and Fire.
Kim Kardashian of ‘Reality Show’ (Virgo!) fame is incredibly wealthy and involved in multi-aspects of TV, social media, fashion, modeling, and acting. Her dominant signs are Virgo, Sagittarius, and Libra. Another Earth-Fire-Air combo.
Bob Marley, the multi-talented singer, songwriter, guitarist, and political activist. He put reggae on the map, truly music of ‘the people’. He, too, was dominant Earth/Virgo-Air/Aquarius-Fire/Sagittarius.
I certainly hope to get a LOT done with Jupiter in Virgo, and I hope you do too!!

Genevieve, I’m also very curious about this transition into Virgo. Jupiter will be traveling through my fourth house, so I’m curious as to home and career too. While it has been traveling through Leo, I have noticed a big expansion in my social circle, so perhaps in Virgo, I’ll be feeling more like a homebody! 🙂
I like the idea of crafts coming back full force.
Again another great overview article!
Vanessa, I’d love to hear more from you once Jupiter does arrive in Virgo in your 4th. As an artist I’m wondering if you’ll be embellishing your own home with all sorts of beauty and detail!
For sure Genevieve!! I have been wanting to do more art for myself and develop my style – Jupiter/Virgo = artisan. I do wonder if I’ll work from home more too. I do think of moving to a different neighborhood next year, so perhaps that’s part of it too. But the day it entered my 4th house, I felt the pressure in my relationship too. Well Saturn has reentered my 7th house too. So a bit of a double-whammy!
But to be honest, I often feel that Jupiter barks louder than it delivers, as much as I like him. 🙂
I understand perfectly Vanessa—-
Saturn delivers solidly, usually because we’ve earned it. Jupiter can be over-rated. Of course, it always leads back to the natal chart and what the potential is. That’s how I see it anyway. Perhaps Saturn will aid it further solidifying your relationship as it tests for whether it is working or not. Jupiter may well bring you personal benefits that improve your home life and personal life. Working from home can be a boon under the right conditions. Thanks for all your good shares!
Hi Genevieve. Im a Virgo born on 28th Aug, till now, want something to get change but im not seeing any improvement. Watever step im taking, dont get success. Please guide me. Thanks
Dear Priya, Thank you for your inquiry. It would be helpful to know the year of your birth. August 28th this year falls at 4+ degrees of Virgo. Jupiter is about to hit that degree by the 30th of August. It’s a short run for you early degree Virgos however. Jupiter zooms ahead to the third decent before turning retrograde.
You might need to have a professional astrologer such as myself do a full reading to determine why the delays for you in reaching the level of success you aspire towards. Could be a Saturn aspect in your natal horoscope. Could be other factors. But I do wish you every success and keep persevering!
